Living Out A Redeemed Masculinity

Our final session in The Quest for Authentic Manhood focuses on the hope that we have at the end of this journey. Bill White helps us look ahead and focus on the prize and the reward that God has for those who pursue Him even though the journey itself may be difficult and treacherous.

Bill challenges us to live out our three distinctive masculine capacities of pursuit, provision, and protection and describes how these capacities can be corrupted by our own sinful hearts.

Bill concludes the teaching with a framework that all men can use to assess their progress. By viewing our common calling (the definition of authentic manhood) through our individual personalities, we can determine how we should be living out our masculinity in our current stage of life.

25 Practical Examples of Redeemed Masculinity

For all of you "How To" guys out there. This session has you in mind. No more thinking and feeling and talking your way through your discovery of authentic manhood; today you get a checklist. In Session 7, Matt Williams presents 25 practical examples of what redeemed manhood looks like.

Be warned, however. This is not intended to be all-inclusive nor a tool to see if you are "passing" or "failing" in comparison to other men. Use these examples as a way to assess where you are and how you can grow and deepen. Ask God for wisdom and choose one or two to apply and work on. Find a friend or mentor who can help you grow in those areas. Keep moving!

Redeemed Masculinity

Now that we have explored the four types of wounds we experience as men, how do we move forward in our brokenness? Thankfully, we have not only a role model in Jesus but we also have a redeemer who gives us the ability to overcome those wounds.

Scott Mozingo leads us through a comparison of the two "Adams," the one who sinned in the garden and the one who died on the cross. Through this comparison we craft a picture and a definition of what authentic masculinity looks like.

The Depravity Wound

While each of us have been wounded to different degrees based on the nurture of fathers, mothers, and other men, we all share a common wound of depravity that is tied directly to our nature.

Matt Williams exposes the half-truths we use to try to rationalize our own depravity and presents the "good news" that gives us hope - that it's only through Christ's death and resurrection and God's mercy and grace that we can be redeemed from our sinful nature.

The Men and Mentors Wound

Are you isolated from other men or in community with them? How strong and effective are your relationships with other men? What men are investing in your life? Matt Williams addresses these questions and more as we explore the Men and Mentors Wound. Authentic manhood thrives when you are in fellowship with other men and when you have a mentor directing, challenging, and celebrating with you.

The Mother Wound

It's time to cut those apron strings. Bill White leads us through an honest yet respectful discussion of the wounds created by mothers who over-protect and over-mother their sons. Though the intent is to love and care for their children, it can lead to an unhealthy attachment that can stifle maturity and authentic manhood. Bill encourages us to recognize the wound and take steps to restore a healthy relationship.

The Father Wound

We all have father wounds that create deficits in our lives. Matt Williams encourages us to identify these wounds, see where they can lead us if unchecked, and determine what we need to do to move forward and break the cycle with our children.
